How CU1 Helps Your Community

Credit Union 1 is committed to improving the lives of our members by supporting the communities in which they live and work.  We’ve embraced the true credit union spirit of “people helping people” since our inception and continue to be committed to this philosophy.  We do this through volunteering, providing corporate contributions and doing fundraisers for non-profits in our branches that fall within our funding focus.

How can CU1 help YOUR organization?

We need CU1 volunteers!

CU1 employees love to volunteer in the community! In 2012, our employees volunteered nearly 2,900 hours across the state. We can be seen everywhere from helping with road cleanup to distributing holiday meals for those in need to providing assistance with check out at fundraising events. Interested in having us volunteer for your event? E-mail Chrissy at oneforallalaska@cu1.org  to send a request (just be sure to give us at least a month’s notice!)

We’d like CU1 to sponsor our event!

During 2012, CU1 invested over $184,000 back into our communities!  All organizations asking for CU1 support should read our Corporate Giving Guidelines and Proposal Requirements to see if their project fits within our focus areas. Proposal requirements are attached below and can be emailed to oneforallalaska@cu1.org or submitted through this online proposal form.

We'd like CU1 to hold a fundraiser for us!

Seven months out of the year, CU1 hosts point of sale fundraisers for various non-profits that provide services in all seven of our branch communities.  The deadline for requests for CU1 to hold a monthly fundraiser in 2013 was December 1, 2012. If you'd like to be considered for a monthly fundraiser in 2014, the deadline is December 1, 2013.  Proposal requirements are attached below and can be emailed to oneforallalaska@cu1.org

We’d like to request promotional items for an upcoming event!

CU1 has a limited number of promotional items (i.e. pens, water bottles, etc) we can provide to non-profit organizations for events and meetings.  Just fill out the form below.

More questions or not sure if your project is something CU1 would support?  Feel free to contact Chrissy at (907) 339-8283 or oneforallalaska@cu1.org

Jail and Bail

I'm working with this years March of Dimes Jail and Bail fundraiser and am turning myself in on October 29th. I will be fingerprinted, have my mug shot taken and locked up. Only your help can make my time worthwhile. Please help me raise my goal of at least $1000. Anyone can help by donating at jailandbail.marchofdimes.com/aqries10. All money raised goes to help babies born prematurly and thier parents. My nephew was a Dimes baby and they were instrumental in helping to insure that he is the wonderful, healthy 3yr old he is today not to mention helping in supporting my sister through that very trying time in her life. Please help this incredible outreach with your support. Thanks you for reading this.

Thanks for the awesome tip

Thanks for the awesome tip aqries10. It's awesome to hear that your nephew is doing so well as a result from the March of Dimes! Good luck with fundraising and I hope you reach your goal!

Hello RNB777.

Your information about AK Survivors in Action, Inc sounds like a great cause for the One for All team to support. I looked up your blog, but I'm wondering, do you also have an official 501c3 non-profit organization number? Thanks for the info!

ANA-ACF Grant

I am a member of community committee which is writing a grant application from Admin. for Native American and Admin. for Children and Families. There are five women on the committee but I am doing the composition and financial portions. I have written grants before and had them awarded, however these were for less that $100,000. This grant is for between $150,000 and $500,100. Our goal is for twice this amount for 5 exercise areas and playgrounds in Ruby, as we have an alarming rising rate of Type 2 Diabetes among young adults through seniors. We have 6 possible grant application from which to fund our goal. Our weakest area is how to meet the financial organization for these large volume grants. We have our vendors and their projected costs. We need advice on how to establish a non-profit bank account; establish a credible payment system for construction work completed; and audit of accounts. Do you have a member willing to lend us a helping hand? Thank You for this opportunity, Hollie Ann Koyukuk

Boys and Girls Clubs are facing large funding cuts

Hi There,
I am hopeful that we can pull together to help a great organization keep its doors open to all the kids who attend - Boys and Girls Clubs. The clubs provide safe, reliable and fun activities for so many kids both before and after school. Many families rely on Boys and Girls Club so they can work while their kids are learning and growing and having fun. Due to funding cuts some programs and staff have been cut and more cuts may be made. Let's keep Boys and Girls Clubs open and keep all the valuable programs. Help keep our youth growing and looking towards bright futures!
Thanks,
Lori

More Help

Hi Lori,

Lately, I've heard even more about Alaska's Boys & Girls Club facing cuts. Credit Union 1 has been a long time supporter - and I hope we can do more in the future! Last week we hosted a silent auction benefit in Ketchikan for the Boys and Girls Club, and in December we're planning another one in Eagle River. If any One for All readers would like to help out, please do! This is a great cause, and I hope we can keep it strong.

Helping Special Needs Youth

We have a new "neighbor" in the Eagle River Community; FOCUS, Inc. has moved in to the space above Garcia's Restaurant. FOCUS is a nonprofit agency that serves individuals with special needs and their families. They have recently started an After School Program for teens and young adults. The program is designed to give special needs teens an opportunity for recreation and socialization with their peers. They meet Monday through Friday, 2 - 6 PM throughout the school year. Being nonprofit and a new program means that they have an extremely tight budget! It would be really worthwhile to welcome our "new neighbors" into the Eagle River community with a fundraiser that would support the After School Program. Teens are the future of our community and everyone, special needs or not, is a valued member. Let's show our support!

Enep'ut Children's Center Fairbanks Non-Profit Child Care!

I am a parent and employee of Enep'ut Children's Center in Fairbanks. Enep'ut has been in operation since the early 1970's and has served many families as a trusted and safe child care facility. Currently Enep'ut is the last private non-profit childcare left in our community and is operating on minimal revenue. Our center could use the title as The One. With quickly aging equipment and building costs on the rise a little community spirit could go a long way in reviving this cherished treasure at the corner or two Fairbanks Streets. Currently Enep'ut serves over 40 children and houses over 10 staff members who work hard everyday. Help us grow stronger, enrich more families lives in our community and be The One!

I think First Book is a worthy cause!

First Book provides new books to children in need, addressing one of the most important factors affecting literacy – access to books. First Book has distributed more than 60 million books to disadvantaged children.
First Book-Anchorage was established in 2000. They support local literacy programs within the municipality of Anchorage through the distribution of new books to children, who for economic reasons, have limited access to books.

First Book is a great program.

Thanks for the tip!

Hi Joseph,

We just held a book drive at CU1 headquarters last month, so I know there are a lot of people here that would love to support a cause for children/books. I found a few contact numbers for the people who coordinate FirstBook-Anchorage, and I'll be sure to post a blog about this once I gather some more information from them. Thanks!
